I was able to know and understand about EARS Inc. through Donna Carkeet in the Dominican Republic (DR). I was living there for four years while my wife completed a scholarship in ophthalmology in the same hospital where Donna was running her audiology program.
I had never heard of Audiology before as we did not have it in Fiji, but Donna persuaded me to enter the course.
I studied for two years and then got a job in a hearing clinic in DR while my wife was completing her studies for another two years.
We came back to Fiji in mid-2010 and since then I have been supported by EARS Inc in setting up my hearing clinic in Fiji. For the last seven years working in this field, I have never regretted a day of it. I am always thanking God for leading me to this organization to serve the hearing-impaired people of my country, especially small children.
While working with EARS we have expanded our services and have teamed up with The Frank Hilton Organization in setting up an audiology clinic for them and training audiology technicians to help run the audiology clinic.
Until now we have moved from seeing only special needs children that are under the Frank Hilton ‘umbrella’ to seeing all special needs children and all hearing-impaired children in Fiji. We have touched so many lives in helping them to hear and learn speech thus improving their education and life opportunities.
For me and my clinic, we have been supported by EARS Inc. since my training in the Dominican Republic. I’m still receiving continuous support from Donna through equipment and further training. All this work would have been impossible if EARS was not there. I must thank all members of this wonderful organization and everyone who has been part of it in helping to set up clinics in developing countries like Fiji.
