ABOUT US
Our Mission
EARS Inc. is dedicated to reducing the incidence and impact of hearing impairment through training and equipping local individuals and agencies in low and middle income countries (LMIC). We serve and empower people, irrespective of nationality, race, gender or religion, while showing the love of Jesus through our words and actions. Our vision is for deaf and hearing-impaired people in LMIC to have access to the hearing services they need to help them to become self-sufficient and achieve their potential.
Respect
We respect and value people and their individual needs regardless of age, race, gender or religious affiliation.
Commitment
We are committed to passing on the love of Jesus through our words and actions.
Integrity
We act consistently with our Mission and Vision being honest and transparent in what we do and say.
Our Story
In 1989, David Pither, an audiometrist from Melbourne, made his first trip to Vanuatu to test hearing and establish an earmould laboratory. Over the next 20 years, David conducted over 30 visits to train local teacher and health workers to make earmoulds, test hearing and manage hearing aids in several low and middle income countries (LMIC), such as the Solomon Islands, Vietnam, Cambodia, Botswana and Ethiopia. During that time he established over 40 earmould labs.
The idea for EARS was formed in 1997 when Peter Bartlett joined David on a mission trip to the Philippines. As David shared his dream of producing affordable hearing aids and establishing locally run hearing clinics in LMIC, Peter caught the vision. They shared their vision with others, and EARS Inc. was officially recognised as an incorporated organisation in December 1998.
Since then, by utilising mainly Australian resources and expertise, we have worked closely with local agencies and professionals to develop, resource and deliver hearing services to their people in many countries, including Cambodia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Fiji, Haiti, India, Malawi, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, the Solomon Islands, Swaziland, Vietnam and Zimbabwe.
Long-term projects in the Dominican Republic and Malawi have resulted in the development and establishment of audiology education programs and permanent hearing clinics. Partnerships in Fiji and Papua New Guinea mean hearing health care and services are available to more than previously possible.
Despite a small number of volunteers and limited financial resources, thousands of people’s lives have been changed through the work of EARS Inc., most of whom would not otherwise have had access to audiology and hearing aid services.

Our Partners
We have learned that successful, sustainable hearing programs are more likely when we work with agencies already well established in a country, and with those who are committed to helping people with disabilities.
